Opportunity Funds for preadmission expenditure, airfare

৪ মে, ২০১১ I'm reading: Opportunity Funds for preadmission expenditure, airfareTweet this!
It is an expensive process to apply to US universities for higher studies and go to that country. You may have a striking academic background to secure a full scholarship or assistantship to cover your tuition, food and accommodation in USA, but you have to keep in mind that your university will not reimburse the money you spent on registration for GRE, TOEFL. You have to have a good amount of money to apply to the universities. You will need around 150 US dollar to apply to each university. After you are admitted, you have to pay yourself the SEVIS fee (200 US dollar), VISA application fee (varies by country), airfare and the costs needed for your settlement in USA.

It is great if your family is able to pay the money. If not, you may need to take bank loan for the purpose. But Bangladeshi banks hardly offer such loans for the students going to study abroad.

For outstanding but poor students, the US government offers Opportunity Funds which cover the preadmission expenditures, airfare and settlement costs. Selection for the fund is very competitive.

What Opportunity Funds cover?

Opportunity Funds cover the registration fees for TOEFL, SAT, GRE, GMAT, application fees for four universities, application courier fees for four universities, VISA fees, SEVIS fee, airfare to US (1500 US dollar) and settling cost (500 US dollar). An applicant can apply for as many relevant items as they want.

What information do you need to apply?

In addition to personal information, contact information, family information and academic information, you will need to write four essays. Topics of the essays are as follows:

Topic 1: What do you hope to study at a U.S. university? What is your planned career? Feel free to mention more than one potential field of study and career path. U.S. education offers many opportunities, so think widely.

Topic 2: What else should we know about your background, your family and your financial condition?

Topic 3: Selection of Opportunity Fund is very competitive. Why should we select you over other highly qualified Bangladeshi students? What makes you unique? (Word limit 250)

Topic 4: Dream a little. What impact do you want to make on the future of Bangladesh? After completing your studies and returning home from the USA, how will you contribute positively to your home community and country? (word limit: 500)

In addition to the essays, you will need to give a list of the extra-curricular clubs, sports and activities that you have participated in school/university and in your community. You will also need to describe which one of these activities had the most meaning for you and why?
