The King's Speech is a 2010 British historical drama film directed by Tom Hooper and written by David Seidler.

The film is about how King George VI, with the help of an Australian speech therapist, overcame his stammer to make a radio broadcast on the day Britain goes to war with Germany during the World War II.

Colin Firth plays King George VI and Geoffrey Rush plays the therapist named Lionel Logue. The film was released in the United Kingdom on 7 January 2011.

The cast of the film also includes Guy Pearce, Michael Gambon, Timothy Spall, Jennifer Ehle, Derek Jacobi, Anthony Andrews, Eve Best, Freya Wilson, Ramona Marquez, Claire Bloom and Tim Downie.

The King's Speech also received widespread critical acclaim. Review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a score of 95% based on reviews from 205 critics, with an average score of 8.6/10.

The film was nominated for seven Golden Globes, winning Best Actor – Drama for Firth. It received 14 BAFTA nominations, the most of any film, winning seven, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Firth, and Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress for Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter.

The film's original score was composed by Alexandre Desplat. In a film about a man struggling to articulate himself, Desplat was wary of overshadowing the dramaturgy. He characterised the challenge: "This is a film about the sound of the voice. Music has to deal with that. Music has to deal with silence. Music has to deal with time."

It was also nominated for 12 Academy Awards, the most of any film that year, and ended up winning four in Best Picture, Best Director for Tom Hooper, Best Actor for Firth and Best Original Screenplay for David Seidler.
